Infrastructure at MRV – THE KIDSPARADISE

It has been specially designed to suit the young, bouncy and eager preschoolers, keeping in mind their inquisitive and explorative nature. The arrangements promote learning through, and with, fun and cheer. The bright facade of our play school buildings and the clean, colorful interiors combine in creating the perfect atmosphere for the children to 'react' in and pick up the basic skills. At our play school, there are no formal classrooms, just thematic rooms. These rooms are particularly useful in enhancing life skills in small children. The rooms are well stocked, with non-toxic toys and equipment, as per the theme and learning objective of each particular room. The outdoor play area includes a splash pool and a mud pit, prime examples of 'learn while you have fun'. Children learn to co-exist and share, as well as to enhance gross motor skills - thereby making this an ideal fun learning place for the children.

My believe is that every child is an individual who has the right to expect commitment, love and respect. Each child regardless of social status, race and religion should be given the opportunity to thrive in a supportive and responsive multicultural environment that will foster his or her holistic development. Every child is a competent and capable person, with innate abilities, unique talent, gifts and unlimited possibilities for change and growth that must be nurtured, encouraged, and developed to his or her fullest potential.

For me, early childhood education should foster holistic development, to serve as the foundation for intellectual growth and development and it should nurture life skills, and promote independent, life-long learners who have the positive dispositions, attitudes and feelings towards learning.

I recognize and support the critical role parents play in the lives of their children by promoting meaningful and collaborative home-centre partnership.

We recognise the need for fine nurturing and dedicated supervision of a child during the infant stages.  Our infant programmes cater to babies from 12 to 17 months’ old. With trained and caring professionals specialising in infant care and development, we are well-equipped to look after infants’ growing and developmental needs.

Our infant care centres are aesthetically designed and specially-fitted to ensure optimal safety and protection of infants while maximising their development and learning capabilities.

Early Years Curriculum

The Early Years programme is a holistic, child-centred and exploratory curriculum that focuses on developing children’s communication and language skills, creative expressions, physical abilities and well-being, and personal and social development. In the Early Years, our curriculum centres on learning experiences which provide emergent, play situations where children make sense of things and people around them, investigate the world, form relationships and interactions.

Early years learning ensures a smooth transition to the more structured and skills-driven learning expectations of the Preschool Programme.

·         Focus on developing:

o    Communication & language skills

o    Creative Expression

o    Physical skills & well-being

o    Personal & social development

·         Provides opportunity for:

o    Emergent, play situations

o    Making sense of things around them

o    Investigating the world

o    Forming relationships and interactions

·         Ensures a smooth transition to a more structured and skills-driven learning in the child’s later years

Toddlers’ learning experiences are built around their natural tendencies to be active, inquisitive and exploratory learners who learn through sensory and tactile stimulations. A warm, conducive and stimulating environment that is rich in responsive interactions and relationships is the key to promoting and developing the children’s expressive language and communications, affective and physical growth. Routines and transition support children’s efforts in adapting to group care setting, and in developing autonomy and self-help skills.

NURSERY (For 2 To 3 Years)

The Nursery curriculum continues to reinforce the development of expressive language, communication and vocabulary skills. Large and fine muscles development is more actively promoted alongside personal, emotional and social development. Carefully structured as well as emergent experiences occurring through daily interactions, play situations, routines and transitions continue to support children’s language and cognitive growth. The environment promotes learning through active exploration, sensory and tactile stimulations. Children in Nursery begin to acquire increased awareness of numbers, explore sounds and letters of the alphabet and develop interest in books and reading.

KINDERGARTEN ( For 4 – 5 years)

The preschool takes on a cognitive and constructivist approach to curriculum emphasising on active child-centred learning experiences. The curriculum centres on children’s interests, curiosity and their natural quest for knowledge which leads to experiences in inquiry, investigations, discovery and active hands-on explorations. Expectations for holistic goals, development of life skills and competencies, dispositions and attitudes are promoted through an innovative integrated and project work curriculum complemented by an interactive skills-based curriculum, all of which are process-oriented and centres on the acquisition of knowledge, concepts and skills.

·         Centres around children’s interest and curiosity

·         They have a natural quest for knowledge leading to experiences in inquiry, investigations, discovery and active hands-on explorations

·         Development of life skills and competencies, disposition and attitudes are promoted through integrated project work

·         Prepares children for successful transition to formal school

Curriculum capitalises on children’s increased capacity for learning content and knowledge thus intellectual development, acquisition of skills and concepts are actively promoted, though process learning remains an important learning goal.

The Kindergarten children are more confident and articulate in using language in expressing and presenting their ideas. The curriculum actively promotes purposeful vocabulary, reading and writing experiences through integrated learning experiences and projects. Children gain a better understanding of numeracy and mathematical concepts. Exposure to technology, awareness of environment and community, and physical skills are more enhanced and sophisticated. Personal and social development continues to be emphasised as children exhibit a better understanding of social etiquettes, right and wrong, and appreciation for rules.

The Learning Wheel is made up of 7 spokes that organises our curriculum into the seven distinct developmental areas:

1.   Communications, Language and Literacy

2.   Early Numeracy

3.   Environmental and Community Awareness

4.   Technology

5.   Personal and Social Development

6.   Physical Skills and Well-being, and

7.   Creative Expressions

Each developmental and learning area is further represented by its distinct curriculum components, which are clearly presented under the respective compartmentalised sections. These key curriculum components, which taken together contribute to the holistic and total integrated curriculum.

Our Approaches

The Child as the Protagonist

Our curriculum is child-centred. Children are viewed as active, self-directed and competent learners, who initiate their own learning, and are actively engaged in hands-on exploratory learning experiences through making independent choices and selecting their own activities.

The Teacher as Facilitator

Our teachers plan engaging and meaningful experiences that build on the children's understanding, and they also provide appropriate resources within the environment to facilitate children's learning. Children are able to work independently as they direct their own learning in collaboration with their peers, rather than rely solely on teachers for directions.

The Process of Learning is the Focus

The processes of learning, rather than the end product, are the key focus in our teaching and learning process. Experience-centred, hands-on learning encourages our children to explore, experiment, inquire, investigate, interact and discover ideas and concepts.
